Looking to go Camping this Summer?

Posted by Suzanne Noctor on February 7th, 2010

Want to get your family involved in an outdoor activity where you can become closer to each other? Then how about considering taking up camping. If you are then make sure that each trip you go on together is a fun and enjoyable one by purchasing the best quality camping equipment that you can. Along with this equipment ensuring that you are going to be protected from the elements when away on your trip it will help to ensure that everyone involved only has good memories of the time spent outdoors together.

What items in particular are going to need to be purchased before you head off on a camping trip with your family for the first time? Below we take a look at some of the most important items of camping equipment that will be needed by you.

1. The Tent - This is the first piece of equipment that you need to purchase before anything else as it is where you will spend quite some time. Not only will you use this area for sleeping in but will be somewhere to go when the weather turns bad. Make sure therefore you choose one that meets with all your family’s needs and ensuring that there is plenty of space for everybody to sleep inside.

When you are choosing a tent for your family camping trips this can prove difficult because there are so many different kinds to select from. However, if you are intending to move around a lot on your trips then select a tent or tents that won’t take up too much space and are light to carry. When it comes to tent styles you have a number of options available including the tunnel, freestanding, teepee, and dome and modified dome styles.

2. Sleeping Bags - Another very crucial piece of equipment to buy before you head of any camping trip with your family. However, there are certain things that you must take into consideration before you make your purchases. It is important that you make sure that yours is made from the right sort of material. Traditionally a sleeping bag would have been made from cotton and wool but to carry them is difficult as they are quite bulk and this is why those using light weight high tech materials are far better. As with the old style bags the new ones help to provide a good layer of insulation for your body and so ensure that its core temperature is maintained at all times.

3. Rucksack/Backpack - Once you know the kind of tent and sleeping bag you will be taking on your camping trip you can now choose this piece of camping equipment. Make sure you choose one that has sufficient room for everything you will be taking with you but won’t place too much stress or strain on your body when carrying it. Look for those ones that have wide well padded straps that sit on your shoulders ensuring that the weight inside is evenly distributed.

Something else to do before you purchase this item of camping equipment is to go to a store where they sell backpacks and try several different makes and models out. If you can ask the store to put some heavy items inside and this way you can really see whether the straps will dig into your shoulders when carrying it so making it uncomfortable when you are walking.

Craigdon Mountain Sports have several shops based around Scotland as well as an online shop where they sell all of their outdoor clothing, equipment and supplies. This includes their range of walking shoes which come from a few high quality brands such as North Face and Berghaus.

Wenzel Beartooth Family Dome Tent Reviewed In Detail

Posted by Adam Girnet on July 21st, 2009

The Wenzel Beartooth family dome tent is one of the smaller family tents and while it boasts a few excellent features it suffers from a lack of quality components. It is a budget tent which is reflected in some of the problems reported.

If you are just looking for an occasional use tent or an inexpensive trial run then it may be worth considering but genuine campers should look at others in the range.

The Wenzel Beartooth family dome tent has an unusual 5 sided shape to it. The front section is rectangular with a triangle area behind.

Set up is not difficult but you do need 2 adults which for it’s size is a surprise.

The strange shape makes it difficult to pack away again so take special note as you unfold it for the first time.

Internally the Wenzel Beartooth family dome tent is just one single room but due to the weird shape and floor area, utilizing the space can be a challenge.

With 2 air beds in here you have a problem getting access to the triangular storage area. The beds end up having to sit by the doorway which means reaching across them all the time.

It comes with shock corded fiberglass poles but they seem to be poor quality and are under a lot of tension resulting in splitting problems for some users.

The ventilation system designed into the shape of the Wenzel Beartooth family dome tent is superb. You get good airflow so the tent never gets stuffy even when there is no breeze.

The removable rain fly is well thought out. You can have full airflow and light when you want but then quickly and easily attach the fly if the weather turns.

Now let’s cover what’s best about the Wenzel Beartooth family dome tent and what is not so good. We’ll also run over the dimensions and statistics and perhaps most useful of all is our comprehensive round up of user reviews and opinions.

Take Your Family Camping this Summer to Save Money and Build Memories

Posted by Don Korte on May 6th, 2009

Summer is right around the corner which means it’s time for the family vacation. The problem is that these economic times are harsh and it can be hard to find an affordable and enjoyable trip that the family can take. Going on a camping trip is a great solution that not only is fun, but will save a ton of money.

Not only are there tents that are large enough to fit an entire family, but these tents cost less than even one night in a nice hotel. For that price you can get your room on the go to take with you on trips over and over again. You’ll be able to enjoy many camping trips throughout the years and throughout the future for a great, cheap price.

You might not realize how many fun activities there are to participate in during a camping trip. You can enjoy the wild life and scenery, go for hikes, play sports, go fishing and much more.

The most important thing though is that you will be building great, long lasting memories and impressions that are going to stick with you, your kids and your friends for an entire lifetime. You’ll be able to look back years later and share great stories and recollections together, and nothing is more important in life than that close family bond.

There are lots of benefits to camping outdoors. The one that comes to my mind first is the chance to get away from the everyday grind. The opportunity to get away and relax in a different setting can help you clear your mind and can make you more productive when you do return to your everyday life.

As a society we spend way too much time indoors. We watch television and play video games and browse the internet all night. It’s time to get outdoors, get some fresh air and soak up everything that nature has to offer us.

Family camping has been an American pastime enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts for generations. Just having the opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and the scenery is a privilege not available in lots of countries.

The great thing is that you can go camping anywhere, regardless of where you live. It can be as simple as a trip to the backyard, or you can take a drive to a great mountain, lake or forest. All you need to make the most out of this summer is a willingness to try something new and take the family camping, you won’t regret it.

The many benefits of picking a trailer tent for outdoor camping.

Posted by Ashlie Flett on April 29th, 2009

There are many advantages associated with choosing trailer tents for outdoor camping. If you enjoy the freedom and luxury of being able to camp in the great outdoors, choosing an appropriate camping tent is a necessity. Trailer tents are products that implement the use of walls that unfold in a natural manner from the body of the trailer that is used to haul camping supplies and then attached to the ground once the ideal camping location has been spotted. In this consumer camping product guide, you will learn why choosing this type of tent among other types of camping tents is the best possible choice that you can make.

1. When getting ready for a camping trip, packing is one of the biggest challenges you may deal with. Packing isn’t a terribly difficult job in and of itself, but it can be tedious to have to pack, load, unpack, repack, and load yet again, only to have to unload it all one more time when you get home. If you use a trailer tent, you’ll have far less need to pack and repack. Items like sleeping bags, food preparation items, first aid and emergency supplies, and other items can remain safely stowed in the trailer, inside the tent for easy and convenient access.

2. The next advantage to choosing this particular product for your camping trip is that tent trailers allow individuals who drive from their home to the place where they plan to camp with ease. There are no complications as they relate to towing. The vehicle and the trailer that is being pulled by the vehicle experience fewer issues when it comes to overall wind resistance. In addition to this, it has been found that drivers who use tent trailers are able to experience a higher level of visibility to the sides as well as the rear of the vehicle that they are driving.

3. Another marked benefit of these kinds of trailers is that they are far lighter than traditional trailer campers. You’ll save money on fuel for your vehicle since you’ll be towing less weight. You can use the money you save for other activities and supplies while on your camping trip.

4. Even those who camp fairly regularly aren’t always the most comfortable sleeping on the ground. You may be one of those die-hard outdoors people who views this is a part of the camping experience. Still, sleeping on the ground is a bit less than comfortable. With a trailer tent, you’ll sleep on a comfortable surface raised off of the ground. What’s better than enjoying a comfortable, restful night’s sleep at your favorite campground beneath the moon and the stars?

5. Finally, one of the most important advantages of trailer tents is how easy they are to assemble and store. You won’t have to battle oddly shaped pieces and flaps of fabric that are common with a standard tent, and you won’t have deal with the frustration of driving around towing an unwieldy, awkwardly shaped trailer as you would with a traditional camper.

By now you can see that there are all kinds of benefits to using trailer tents for your outdoor camping needs. Take advantage of this convenient, easy to use option to really enjoy the great outdoors!
